I've recently found this new CMS software called Joomla. It's based on PHP/MySQL and Apache. I was curious if anyone had heard anything about it. It's aparently been out for more than a year. I've done a lot of PHP-Nuke and Joomla seems to be a very similar approach, but better looking. |

Ah, i heard of that a while back, looks pretty good, however i'd still prefer to make eveything myself rather than use a premade script.

I think I've heard of it. I've really only had experience with CMS while using Fantastico on cPanel. Out of Fantastico's range I found Mambo to be the best (for me, anyway) but Mambo have kinda gone downhill recently. They're not as good as they used to be. I liked PHP-Nuke when I used it |

I've personally never used Joomla, but from what I hear it's a nice CMS. PHP-Nuke on the other hand, is very, very insecure. Every time I see a site running PHP-Nuke I just shake my head in disappointment. PHP-Nuke is like Windows: it's made with usability in mind, not security.

I have used Joomla, and I got to say it has every option for everything ever. EVER. It is a pretty great CMS if you want a CMS and not a blog, though you could pretty easily modify it to become one.

I use Joomla! on a few different sites. (personal and business) I tried phpnuke a while back, when it was under attack by the script kiddies thats when i changed to Mambo. The Foundation that Runs Mambo (Miro Inc. I believe) made some bad choices(from there core dev teams view of the project) about the openness of the project and most of the lead core dev team left the project.... and so Joomla is born. We have quite a community now. There are many extensions and addons to build a site for anything you could wish. If it isn't there you can build it yourself. The Joomla has API documentation for developers All OSS and free. some of my Joomla sites are: http://www.conbeer.org (my personal site that needs content updates) http://www.hobud.net (free local social networking site) http://www.numidiadragway.net (Dragrace Track Site) |
