I received an email from Paul Graham today and he kindly suggested that we eliminate the front page which is forcing users to register before browsing the content. TechnoBabble also suggested this in their blog post about Shuzak.
This was my explanation:
The problem with Digg like upfront interfaces is that it discourages people from signing up. A social network like Shuzak demands that people be more “social” rather than simply “consume” content...But you know, unlike other social networks, we don’t require people to signup to post replies or view topics.
I am not sure if that's more of an excuse than a reason. I think we agree with the general sentiment that information should be available as fluidly as possible. Should the front page be replaced by "Interesting Topics"? |
