The link system & SMASHIN SCOPE - 24 December, 2006
Mahmut says
The link system is used for memorising lists of items and fast speed once you get used to it. the link system is based on assosiations or 'links' that you made to each item. but first we have to learn the basic memory princapples which are SMASHIN SCOPE and what each letter stands for

S= Sensuality= using all your senses while memorising such as touch, smell, taste and so on

M=Movement= adding movement to an image is more memorable than a non moving one.

A=Assosiation= what ever you wish to memorise you have to have stable links to a particular enviroment

S=Sexuality= no need to explain you all know

H=Humour= the more humour you add the memorable something is

I=Imagination= this is the powerhouse of memory. if you dont imagine you cant remember. so imagine and literally let your imagination go riot.

N=Number= Number adds effieciency to Order

S=Symbolism= substituting a more meaningfull image for a dull image

C=Colour= the more colourfull an image is the more memorable it is so paint your images with the whole rainbow

O=Order= Increases the brains chances of random access

P=Positive Images= Using positive images

E=Exageration= exagerating the size of something

i will later write about the link system. so bye for now

Hey, that's a great summary of the available techniques. I have read a few books on building memory so I can vouch for many of the above. I am not too sure of "Positive Images" and "Movement". I always visualize stationary images and then associate them with something. The power of association is amazing. I read a list of 20 random words (cat, box, tie, sword, donkey, camera, etc) about 6 months ago and I still remember them in order. What I did was build a visual memory of association that went something like this:

"A cat inside a box wearing a tie got cut by a sword, and the box was on top of a donkey and a camera was used to take a photo of this entire scene"

Oh and I should add that I memorized 200 digits of pi (3.14159265..) using mental images of the numbers. I see different numbers in different colors and sizes. The digit one, for example, is a very tiny little atom. While 6 is the color pink, etc. It works wonders.

From my experiences, the use of "Movement" incorporated with one's images can be quite effective. As for Positive Images, I can neither confirm or disprove it's effectiveness at this time.
