Pronouncing herbs

It has come to my attention that americans prounance herbs in funny ways..
for instance, i've heard some americans drop the "h" from herbs, to make erbs
I pronounce oregano
or-eh-gah-no
but i have heard people say
Or-eg-ah-no
and i say basil
ba-zil
but ive heard some americans say
bay-sil
How do you pronounce these things?
