Hi, I am thinking of enhancing the free available ressources on wikiversity. Currently there exist podcast courses of MIT, Yale, Berkeley with creative license. On the other hand there is also the project wikiversity & wikibooks. I think it is worth to think about review and translation of the stuff. The problem is an essential public good problem. There are common solution to provide public goods without goverment: assurance contracts, lottery for ex...Click Here | By plutokid

Looking for astronomy physics help. ( 7 replies )
I and stuck on this problem: If a typical halo star has an orbital velocity of 300 km/s, how long does it take to pass through the disk of the galaxy? Assume that the disk is 1000 pc thick. I found out that a halo star is also know as a high velocity star but no luck on a formula. I hope some on can shed some light....Click Here | By Chitownguy885

is anybody out there? and by anybody i mean physicists ( 37 replies )
aspiring or otherwise... there seem to be a fair number of coding geeks etc on here. i'd like to see a solid showing from those of us who are educated in the ways of physics. there's strength in numbers, and i think it may lead to some interesting discussions to organize us a little more - which is why i created this community in the first place. i am also inspired by the idea of collaborating and cross-collaborating... just think, perhaps if you...Click Here | By jared.nance

Zero point energy/ Vacuum energy ( 9 replies )
I've been doing a bit of research on this topic, and I was hoping that one of the physicists on here could help me out. As I understand it, the idea behind vaccum energy is that in any given area of empty space, there are billions of electrons and positron pairs hopping into existence, and then annihliating themselves so quickly that you can never be sure that they existed at all. Indeed, the only way you can measure the phenomenon, is through the Ca...Click Here | By Ati
