Hopelessly idiotic physics thought experiment ( 2 replies )
Okay, I'm merely an ad man, but I thought up this visualization problem for myself a few years ago and promptly was in above my paygrade. Pardon if it is simply just so wrong and/or fundamental as to be completely laughable. Here's the gig: Okay, you got this job helping God around His personal airport. God has picked up a prop plane to tinker with. It has an engine with infinite horsepower, because He's God and everything. ...Click Here | By gregmills

BEC = Dark Matter? ( 7 replies )
The last post in this community was over a month ago, so I figured it was time to spice Shuzak up with some neat physics. As I was trolling www.arxiv.org, I came across this paper: http://www.arxiv.org/abs/0705.4158 . It discusses the possibility of Bose-Einstein condensate(BEC) as being what is behind dark matter. I personally think this is a great idea since I don't quite buy the whole WIMP thing. I like stuff that we can at least understand to a point. BEC is ...Click Here | By Joe

Hubbles replacment unveiled. ( 8 replies )
Nasa has revealed the James Webb Space Telescope. The new telescope is much bigger, much shinier and provides a huge improvement over Hubble. A combination of its much bigger primary mirror, its placement at lagrange point 2 and its sun shield will give it vastly greater sensitivity. ...Click Here | By poss

Dark Matter Found?!? ( 1 replies )
It looks like Hubble has found dark matter! Nasa has announced a press conference to discuss the apparent discovery of a ring of dark matter in the cluster CL0024+17. If this is true, it will be the first actual sighting of dark matter. ...Click Here | By poss

A fourth state of matter? ( 26 replies )
i just dugg up this article, very interesting, apparently there may be another state apart from solid, liquid and gas. What is it? it is a string net. http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg19325954.200?DCMP=Matt_Sparkes&nsref=fourth-state...Click Here | By poss

Pluto Occulation ( 2 replies )
On sunday morning (march 18th), Pluto will pass directly in front of a star in the constellation Sagittarius. This occultation will be visible through large backyard telescopes in the western & central United States. (It will also be visible from northern and possibly central Mexico & southwestern Canada.) You'll be able to have a rare look into Pluto's ...Click Here | By Lacey

320 EeV?!?!? (paper discussion) ( 39 replies )
This is an experimental thread. There is an article available on arXiv (www.arxiv.org), numbered astro-ph/9410069v1 it is about a 320EeV event detected by the fly's eye observatory in utah. this is an ENORMOUS amount of energy - a particle with a momentum literally equivalent to a major league fastball. the paper is entitled "in search of a source for the 320 EeV Fly's Eye Cosmic Ray". i am currently in the process of reading this paper, i would invite interested...Click Here | By jared.nance

is anybody out there? and by anybody i mean physicists ( 37 replies )
aspiring or otherwise... there seem to be a fair number of coding geeks etc on here. i'd like to see a solid showing from those of us who are educated in the ways of physics. there's strength in numbers, and i think it may lead to some interesting discussions to organize us a little more - which is why i created this community in the first place. i am also inspired by the idea of collaborating and cross-collaborating... just think, perhaps if you...Click Here | By jared.nance

The Static Multi-Verse ( 16 replies )
In hawkings idea of a begining to the universe you have what is the point of a singularity go from colapsing inward endlessly and radiating heat in the form of hawking radiation to expanding in a large inversed explosion. My view is that for ever time enough matter, time, and what ever is collapsed into a single point it will explode into some other spatial dimension my view is that universed are like a tunnel of mirrors. Ever going and for ever lasting. Each time a black hole is formed an new B...Click Here | By
